Subject:Vzzov

From the notes of Prof. Allan Visley, 2004:

-An alien creature displaying a three point radial anatomy, more like a terran sea creature of some sort than a mammal, though it is vaguely humanoid. Vaguely.

It seems as if these creatures would have evolved from a stationary filter feeder, possibly. However, that is not written in stone, since, after all, they are alien to us.

The creature stands some 4 and a half feet tall, the body a sort of greyed slate blue with an odd reddish sheen. The...legs are a set of three, it seems, though one, often in the 'back' of the alien, is much thicker, and longer by nearly a foot. All of the appendages, however, are jointless and muscular in action, the ends toughened, and the two frontmost balancing on the tips rather than any legnth, as opposed to the backmost pod. The 'legs' (being the pair and not the set, though the creature exhibits several different types and rythmns of locomotion, thus using them all at different gaits) maintain a sort of 's' curve to balance weight, therefore looking vaguely human or insectoid. Dark stripes travel down in front like seams, from either side of the neck, down the lateral 'chest' and the middle of the 'legs'. In 'back', the stripe follows the head down the neck and center 'spine' (1) and the center of the tail foot. We have seen, twice, Vzzov glowing along these stripes.

The tail seems the same girth as, and as such a continuation of, the torso (at least a foot and a half across and weighty), but this all seems related to the creature's stance and whether or not it is standing 'upright' (though upright is not consistent with the alien). The junction of the legs allows for a somewhat hiplike flare, but the torso is straight and slender, ending at 'shoulders'. There are two, and two tentacles reside there, often curled, and another seems to sprout from the 'chest', otherwise almost nonexistant unless deployed. At the ends of each of these somewhat translucent lengths there seems to be a set of three small, short activators, like nubby fingers.

The neck is not overlong, but is swanned, and graduates into a smooth, featureless profile, reminiscent of a masked helmet. The 'face' as a whole, is indeed glassy and almost entirely clear, save a bit of a grey tint. The organs of the cerebrum, backs of eyespots, circulatory vesicles and orther shapes can be seen in active function. I mention here that there is no mouth, esophagus or vocal capability to be seen. I will elaborate on that later.

There are three 'eyes', though they are more eye spots than eye balls. They meet the surface of the face flush and flat, not protruding at all from it. They are arranged with one on the upper center and the other two on either side. They are massive, around the size of my palm in full, but do shrink and grow in accordance to light, along with rings of dots that grow, narrow or disappear like the wrinkes of an iris. The creature is responsive to the full, absolute full spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, from radio to gamma, as extreme as this may seem. There are flat, long triangular appendages coming from the top of the 'head' (2) that stay smoothed along the neck until the creature shrouds its face by closing the face off like a lid does an eye.

Vzzov, called such because it seems to present that name as representing itself, cannot speak, as mentioned. However, it is capable of humming and vibrating, creating sounds that go from anywhere between to deep to be heard (and only felt), to too high or painful to the ear. It has learned to write, but it seems easy enough to pick up a few simple communications from it by listening to the patterns of buzzes and thrums it creates. I look forward to speaking with Vzzov, because it seems at least as intelligent as myself, if not far more.

The creature seems to have a sexual orifice at the center of the three feet, and though it seems unlikely, it must stretch to acommodate at least the girth of one of its arms, for we have seen two of these creatures mating; they do so in a yin and yang position, each with its ventral 'arm' in the other. This seems odd, however, because Vzzov has, on occastion, engaged in sexual posturing with female researchers, producting a smooth phallus above its cloaca. Furthermore, Dr. Bradington reports that it can, with touch, become engorged, developing a fringed, highly-textured surface. This happened only after a questionable encounter with a male doctor. In a related incident, Dr. Bradington was (questionably) accosted. Following this, the creature developed what are clearly breasts, but after we seemed to express our shock and amazement at this, Vzzov seemed to revert, perhaps even -ashamed- of them.

Breasts would seem to ruin the complete radial anatomy, but Vzzov still turns its head backwards (really, there is no fore or aft) and sometimes walks sideways. It (he? She?) also walks on all fours.. or threes, as it were, propping its torso on the ventral arm and walking with two 'legs' and sometimes the tail. This manner of movement is reminiscent of a walking kangaroo. The creature is incredibly agile, and can rotate or roll in either direction this way, deploying the second and third arms and therefore never losing contact with the ground.

It is worth noting, however, that Vzzov, though apparently capable of great speed and acrobatics, isn't prone to such, and often stays in one place for hours or even days. We are not sure, because of language barriers, what its diet consists of, but our conjecture is that the species survives on bacterium and small organisms in the substrate on which they live. Here, it seems to take well to salty foods and proteins, and can secrete a gastric gel that softens them. It then simply gathers up whatever the bollus is by 'hand' or pushes it into the thick 'tail', and consumes it.

Vzzov is very curious and non-violent, and also prone to touching quite a lot. It enjoys music, and so Dr. Canterbury gave it a pair of headphones and an mp3 player. Sound receptors seem to be somewhere along the edges of the face, and so it keeps them about its neck. Vzzov has shown affinity for complicated and speedy melodies, as often found in classical symphonies and speedy electronica.

Footnotes: 1. The creature does not appear to have bones, as it were, but a fluid filled pressure skeleton like that of a coelocanth.

2. The top is no more top than bottom, depending on how Vzzov is turned.'

[Yeah yeah, a picture's comin'. But no complaining. Reading is fundamental. If it helps, Vzzov acts a little like No Face from Spirited Away.]
