"Mercy?" Karsh rasped from within his helm, a fearsome looking thing of tarnished copper and sharp edges. He twisted the trident in his opponent's side, almost lazily, bored with the agonized screams he was given in return. He was sick of this sport, fighting weak land dwellers for the entertainment of softer, weaker ones. He twisted the trident again, watching the blood ooze around the tines of his weapon with a sense of longing. How long had he been away from the ocean? How long since he had been able to hunt his own prey, to feel its flesh give in his jaws, to be drawn into a frenzy, a real, true frenzy, by the scent of blood? The shark leaned forward, sliding his grip down the shaft of his trident until he was close enough for his opponent to see through the lens over his eye, to meet his gaze, cold and dark as the waters he once called home.
"Mercy is for land dwellers." He straightened and placed a foot, better suited for swimming than travel on land, even cut and scarred as it was from combat, on the back of his opponent's neck.
"Mercy is for prey." Without remorse, he drove his foot down and moved one step closer to winning his freedom.
Broadly built and easily reaching 7 ft. when standing erect, the bull shark tends to be an impressive sight, if not intimidating. Scars arc across mottled gray skin, stretched tight over knotted muscle, reminders of the years he was forced to spend on land. Fins sweep from his forearms and calves, much like the pair resting on either side of his hips like twin extensions of the pelvic bone; a much larger dorsal juts from his upper back. His head, when not covered by his helm, is wedge-shaped, with tar black eyes and a mouth filled with a double row of triangular teeth, set upon a thick, gilled neck.
Though he can venture on land unaided for short periods of time, Karsh lacks lungs and is therefore unable to "breathe" out of the water. To venture on land, he dons a relic from his days in the arena: a copper helm, now tarnished, fed by a water tank on his back. This keeps him from using his jaws to bite out of the water, much to his perpetual annoyance, but the benefit of being able to continue breathing is a trade he's willing to accept.
As a shark, Karsh possesses a number of abilities not shared by land dwelling creatures. The electroreceptors located in his head allow him to sense electrical fields, especially those of other organisms. While this sense is dulled away from bodies of water, his life on land has allowed him to fine-tune it, keeping it effective on land. When submerged, Karsh's lateral line lets him sense motion and vibrations in the water.
Both in and out of water, Karsh retains an acute sense of hearing. As with all sharks, he never seems to truly sleep and possesses an unusual aversion to dolphins.
